海翁四百年史 Hái-Ang’s 400 Years of History

作品以戲劇舞台的形式，呈現臺灣四百年來的歷史。「海翁」（hái-ang）在臺語中意指鯨魚，作品將臺灣島嶼轉化為一艘鯨魚造型的航空母艦，透過可愛詼諧的圖像與漫畫語彙，訴說關於故鄉的故事。

臺灣如同一艘不會沉沒的航空母艦，屹立於第一島鏈的防線上。自大航海時代以來，這座島嶼先後經歷荷蘭、西班牙、清國、日本與中華民國等不同政權的統治。如今，人民終於成為這片土地的主人，作品也從歷史的回望轉向當代的思考：在多元文化交織而成的臺灣，我們如何理解自己的樣貌，又將帶領這艘「海翁」航向何方？作品在回顧與戲謔之間，邀請觀眾重新認識自己的島嶼，共同想像我們希望留給未來的臺灣。

Taking the form of a theatrical stage, the work presents four hundred years of Taiwan’s history. Hái-ang is the Taiwanese word for “whale.” The work reimagines the island of Taiwan as a whale-shaped aircraft carrier and uses playful, humorous imagery and a comic-book visual language to tell stories about the artist’s homeland.

Taiwan is portrayed as an unsinkable aircraft carrier standing along the defensive line of the First Island Chain. Since the Age of Exploration, the island has experienced successive periods of rule by the Dutch, the Spanish, the Qing Empire, Japan, and the Republic of China. Today, as the people have finally become masters of this land, the work shifts from historical reflection toward contemporary questions: In a Taiwan shaped by the interweaving of diverse cultures, how do we understand who we are, and where will we steer this Hái-ang? Moving between reflection and playful satire, the work invites audiences to rediscover their island and collectively imagine the Taiwan they hope to leave to future generations.
