Presented during Nuit Blanche, from dusk until dawn, Taiwanese Dream takes the form of a stage installation. The work centers on Taiwan’s distinctive signboard culture, bringing together signs of various sizes and forms alongside the multicolored peacock lights commonly seen at betel nut stands. Together, they recreate the raw visual landscape of improvised urban structures. What may appear to be a chaotic accumulation of corrugated metal and fluorescent tubes is, in fact, the trace of individual households struggling to survive, as well as tangible evidence of how people in Taiwan persist in pursuing their ideals and putting their dreams into practice.

The work places significant social issues and ideas within a series of illuminated signboards. Phrases such as “Rainbow Taiwan,” “Democracy,” and “Make a Fortune” each articulate a different vision of the dreams imagined across the island.
